VIV RODD
Father Dennis, for his encouragement, insatiable appetite for jazz, and support throughout my career. Mother Joan, for enduring many years of 6 hours a day practice routines. Cunard Shipping for transporting me on many occasions to the ‘Big Apple’, and giving me the opportunity to sit-in and play with some of the American greats. Truro College / Plymouth University for believing and giving me the opportunity, as course leader, to educate future generations of up and coming jazz musicians. Son Damian, for wonderful creative musicianship, studio engineering, and production. Kris Gayle for vocal excellence, and giving me total freedom in the arrangements and orchestrations. DAMIAN RODD
On first hearing Kris sing ‘It Never Entered My Mind’ at one of her live performances I was hooked. Her ability to emote a lyric really touched me and I knew I had to go about capturing it. Viv Rodd’s lush orchestrations are the perfect backdrop for someone of Kris’s calibre and showcase her capabilities perfectly. A truly special marriage which has been honed over many years playing together. I would like to thank my Mum whose bravery and spirit in the last few difficult years have been vital. Robbie ‘The Funk’ Anthony, Tim ‘The Dust’ Murray, Alex ‘Chisels’ Cockle, Ross ‘Ted’ Williams, Paul ‘The Exhaust’ Haywood, Monty ‘Squeeze It’ Ray and Marc ‘Supreme’ Hadley for your wonderful contributions. Steve ‘Slow Tools’ Miller for the engineering tips. Dad for the jazz talk and trips to the Ghurka restaurant. My son Lewis, and my partner Zaya for her love and honesty. I would like to dedicate this album to my late sister whose presence is forever with me and whose musical taste shaped much of this album.
