Kris and Viv’s very successful previous album “Dedicated to You” was a live duo recording. This time, rather than revisit the already overcrowded genre of vocalist plus rhythm section, they decided instead to take advantage of the new synthesiser technology to create a lush backdrop for Kris’s voice.

Added to this were some of the finest jazz instrumentalists in the South West, Viv’s orchestrations and the superb production, mixing and recording skills of Damian Rodd at The Big Milk Music Laboratory, Falmouth. Damian is a great admirer of Kris’s ability with ballads – on her live performances Kris has an understated but magnetic way with slow tunes, telling a story which really draws the listener in, and Damian has captured that quality on the three ballads on this recording.

Whereas Kris’s previous album focused on the ‘Great American Songbook’ composers, this time the majority of the tracks are written by jazz musicians; apart from the title track, an original composition by Viv with lyrics by Kris, there are selections by Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Bill Evans, Cannonball Adderley, Ray Brown and Leonard Feather. Add in some great standards by Jerome Kern, Rodgers and Hart and Michel Legrand, and a rarely heard jazz waltz, and the end result is an album of great variety and musicality.
